What are the requirements to become a Zoo Keeper?
- Certificate III in Captive Animal Management (or equivalent), or the ability to enrol in the course.
- Knowledge and experience in captive husbandry and exhibit design.
- Knowledge of animal training and conditioning practices.
- Demonstrated customer service ethos.
- Demonstrated presentation and communication skills
- Hold a current NSW Class C Drivers Licence.
- Hold or have the ability to gain a Class A&B Firearms Licence
- Other specific criteria dependent on the role.
What assessment methods are used by the ZPB?
Depending on the position, there are a variety of assessment tools that the ZPB use including:
- Structured interviews
- Group activities
- Presentations
- Written and/or numeracy tests
- Work tests (practical assessments)
These tools are often used in assessment centres and a variety can be used at any one time.
How long will the recruitment process take before a decision is made?
The ZPB is a government agency is bound by legislation and regulations. Before a final decision can be made the required pre-employment checks need to be processed. These checks can take a minimum of two weeks to be processed. The Human Resources Officer will keep you updated on the progress of your application.
