The Backyard to Bush farmyard is busy with the pitter patter of new little feet. Miniature pigs ‘Star' and ‘Max' are the first-time proud parents of five tiny piglets. Mum ‘Star' is doing exceptionally well but is 'flat out' with all the feeding and answering to the continuous miniature ‘grunts and oinks'.

After the piglets are born, they move towards mum's teats. Once they find a teat they immediately begin to suckle. They use the very same teat every time they drink throughout the entire lactation period.

When ‘Star' is feeding her piglets she makes constant grunting noises. The muscles in her stomach contract in and out which helps the milk to flow better to her teats for the piglets to drink.

Max and Star are popular members of the farmyard. They love rolling in the mud and vegetable iceblocks on hot days. They also love going out for daily walks and meeting all the visitors. They will be sure to pass down all their clever habits to the new family additions.

Watch the little piglets here at two days old, and come down and visit them with mum and dad any day of the week at Backyard to Bush.
