Preserving Indonesia's Forgotten Apes

Preserving Indonesia’s Forgotten Apes

On Tuesday 8th May The Taronga Foundation hosted a special lecture on Gibbons and the situation facing these rare and endangered primates in Indonesia, as part of a lecture series held throughout Australia to raise funds and awareness for these amazing animals. The lecture was given by Chanee, Founder of the Kalaweit Gibbon Project and Clare Campbell, Curator Perth Zoo and raised $1,335.70 for the Kalaweit Gibbon Project in Indonesia.

The Kalaweit Gibbon Project and Silvery Gibbon Project are non-profit groups whose mission is to help preserve Indonesia's five Gibbon species by establishing rehabilitation Centres and Re-introduction Programs in Borneo, Sumatra and Java for the care of confiscated and surrendered ex pet gibbons.
