Long-nosed Bandicoot

Perameles nasuta

Taronga Zoo participates in the recovery program for the endangered Long-nosed Bandicoot. Once abundant throughout the Sydney region, there are only a few isolated populations of Long-nosed Bandicoot remaining. This is the first recovery plan for a mammal species in an urban and natural context. The objectives of the program are to maintain and enhance the population through education, increasing protection for the bandicoot on both publicly owned and freehold land and decreasing recognised threats.
