Led by a dominant male, Chimpanzee family groups travel during the day and build nests to sleep in at night.
Taronga is giving some favourite exhibits facelifts during Winter so you might come across some construction work when you visit Taronga Zoo.
Although you’ll notice work going on, most of our 2500 animals are on display as usual.
Don't miss our new elephant calf, Pathi Harn, the Bird Shows or a visit to our new Tasmanian Devil Exhibit – opening soon.
Leading up to Summer, we're also transforming some unused exhibits into amenities for our visitors including a new café overlooking the Giraffes with spectacular Harbour and CBD views, a huge, new bushland picnic area near our historic Floral Clock and an extra Parents' Room.
We’re also building a new Scenic Lookout and cliff-top path way linking the African Water Hole and the Himalayan Mountain Goats, right next to our Big Cats.
Taronga’s beautiful Rainforest Aviary will be closed for renovations but bird fans will get their fill at our twice-daily Free Flight Bird Shows, the Bushland and Waterbird Aviaries and the Platypus Pools exhibit.
Our world-famous chimp group are living in a different exhibit while their home is getting a fantastic upgrade, but you can still see the group today.
Don’t forget to check with our Information Desk on arrival or with our Visitor Services staff in the grounds to get the latest on your favourite animals.
Our Visitor Map has the full list of keeper talks and presentations throughout the day.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
