Ursus arctus middendorffi

Standing upright, the Kodiak Bear can reach up to four metres but when first born, fits into the palm of your hand. Kodiaks are incredibly fast and strong. They can catch a running deer and kill it with one blow. Although they love a bath they don't like getting their ears wet. Taronga Zoo's Kodiak Bears Bethel and Cynthia are sisters. They were born in 1977 at Cheyenne Springs Zoo in Colorado. They first lived at Adelaide Zoo before coming to Taronga in 1985.
