Watch them in the water and the otters appear to be encased in a silver sheen. This is in fact a film of air bubbles that clings to the longer outer hairs covering their bodies.

On July 1 2009 Taronga amalgamated with the Zoo Friends organisation, and we are currently developing comprehensive new volunteer programs at Taronga Zoo in Sydney and Taronga Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo.

Please note, to gain entry into the volunteer program you must be over 18 years old and a financial member of Zoo Friends. Zoo Friends membership can be purchased after confirmation of acceptance following attendance at our recruitment day.
You must be available to volunteer on a fortnightly basis for a minimum of 12 months from the time of recruitment.
We recently held an intake for all volunteer areas and will not be holding another one until October 2010.
