Education Centre

The Education Centre is a specially created precinct for school and tertiary groups. As it is not accessed by the public, it is also the ideal location for Gold tours and VIP visits.

The Centre houses a range of conditioned Australian and exotic species which are used in education sessions and tours. These include amphibians, reptiles, birds, marsupials and echidnas.

Your main role as an Education Volunteer:

Duties as a volunteer at the Education Centre would include:

  • Assisting with animal husbandry as set out daily by our Zookeepers.
  • Assisting in classroom lessons as directed by our Education Officers.
  • Collecting animals and preparing pet packs and food for Zoomobile and classrooms lessons.
  • Assisting Education Officers with animal conditioning and enrichment activities.
  • Occasional office administration duties such as animal research, photocopying and filing.

A Typical day at the Education Centre:

8am - Collect animals and load up Zoomobile with Education Officer.

8.30am - Divisional meeting

9am - Animal husbandry

10am - Teaching assistant (help collect and display animals)

1pm - Lunch

2pm - Animal conditioning

3pm - Animal husbandry

4pm - Home time!

The Education Centre is a busy and exciting venue and no two days are ever the same. Volunteers will need to show initiative, be friendly, energetic, and flexible and be passionate about conservation education. Volunteers are required from Monday - Friday between  8am - 4pm

All Education Centre volunteers will be required to complete a Working With Children Check application prior to volunteering.
